Agrizzi closely monitored in ICU after heart attack - lawyer
Nine guards assigned to guard ex-Bosasa COO
Former Bosasa COO Angelo Agrizzi is closely monitored in ICU of a Johannesburg private hospital after suffering a heart attack.
Agrizzi who had to be transferred to a private hospital from Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Soweto suffered the cardiac arrest on Wednesday, his lawyer Daniel Witz confirmed.
He suffered from a heart attack yesterday [Wednesday], however the doctors andmedical staff responded quickly to resuscitated and stabilise him. He ’ s currently ina serious condition and is closely monitored, ” Witz said.
Agrizzi was denied bail last week after the court decided that he was a possible flight risk after being arrested on charges of corruption and bribery relating to a R800,000 paid to ANC MP Vincent Smith.
He appeared in the Palm Springs magistrate ’ s court and was kept in custody before his health took a knock and was then transferred to the Baragwanath hospital.
Witz said they would be back in court for Agrizzi ’ s bail appeal on Monday where they will argue that he ’ s not a flight risk.
He said Agrizziwas currently kept under heavily armed security guards with nine guards keeping assigned to watch over him.
Mr Agrizzi is restrained to the bed by one leg, he has nine armed guards; three in his actual ICU room, three outside his ICU room and three in the parking lot,” Witz said.
He said Agrizzi ’ s family was now more focused on his health and him getting better as soon as possible.
Honestly, the family iswaiting for news everyday, they are just hoping and praying he makes fully recovery they are not really concerned with anything else other than his health, Witz said.
Agrizzi had told the Zondo commission inquiry into state capture last year that Bosasa CEO Gavin Watson had ordered that ANC politician Nomvula Mokonyane ’ s birthday party be organised and be paid for by the controversial company which made millions from dodgy government contracts.
He also lifted the lid on other top ANC politicians and government officials that had been on Bosasa ’ s payroll including Smith.
