What a way to kick off new PSL season

TAB SOCCER 13 POOL TOMORROW IS SET TO TOTAL R45 MILLION!

- By Mark Gleeson

It is must be a computer programme with a sense of both humour and irony that deemed 2019-20 PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns and runners-up Kaizer Chiefs should clash on the first day of the new PSL season.

It is a resumption of the riveting battle fought out by the two clubs for last season’s title, which ended dramatically with Sundowns pipping Chiefs on the last day after being as much as 13 points adrift at one stage.

Of course, in the six weeks since the end of that campaign much has changed for both teams. New coaches are at the helm and Sundowns have bought a bevy of new players, while Chiefs are still waiting to hear whether their transfer ban will be lifted.

It puts them at a disadvantage for tomorrow’s clash at Soccer City, where Sundowns will have a much stronger squad. But the champions might be busy weaving a noose for their neck with a trio of coaches in charge that surely is not workable in the long term.

Chiefs are entering a sixth season without a trophy, but for arch-rivals Orlando Pirates it is the seventh season since they lifted any silverware. Once again the club has done some solid business in the transfer market, both bringing in and cleaning out.

There can be no excuses for coach Josef Zinnbauer not to have them up among this season’s front-runners and it is imperative they start the campaign by winning at AmaZulu, although that is easier said than done.

The big three will surely be the title contenders again, while many clubs have the potential for relegation. The battle to avoid the drop is set to be even more intense than the fight for the crown and some of the early candidates will be identified amid a full programme of matches tomorrow and on Sunday.

This weekend’s top tips for home success are Bloemfontein Celtic and SuperSport United.

All the PSL matches are included in a variety of TAB soccer pools this weekend and some astute soccer fans are set to win big huge amounts of cash!

There are add-ins to three TAB soccer pools tomorrow, including R24 million to Soccer 13, which is set to total a fantastic R45 million! What a pool to win, especially if there are a few upsets, and it costs only R2 to play.
