Hot favourites seem hard to beat

Four meetings offer bettors the chance to build up a war chest

- By Racing Editor

Most punters have already started planning their punting strategy for next Saturday, when the Pick 6 pool at Turffontein on Summer Cup Day is expected to reach R20-million.

But that does not mean this weekend will be the proverbial quiet before the storm. On the contrary, a bumper weekend of local racing is on the cards.

Today’s nine-race meeting at Fairview will be followed by a double-header tomorrow at Kenilworth and Turffontein and on Sunday the action is from Greyville in Durban.

Today’s best bet at Fairview is the Alan Greeff-trained Marmara Sea, who will be aiming for his seventh consecutive victory since moving to Port Elizabeth.

This Soft Falling Rain gelding is unbeaten after six runs on the Fairview Polytrack and lines up in the November Stakes (Race 7) today.

Two possible exotic bankers at Kenilworth tomorrow can help punters build up a war chest ahead of the Summer Cup.

Vaughan Marshalls’ Seeking The Stars (Race 5) and the Mike de Kocktrained Malmoos (Race 6) both look hard to beat.

At Turffontein it’s Dr Doolittle (Race 3) from Paul Peter’s yard who looks the most likely to add another win to his record.

The last race at Greyville on Sunday sees Alyson Wright’s Predator make his seventh appearance.

Beaten less than a length in three of his career outings, this Querari gelding is long overdue a win and he looks to have everything going for him to finally exit the maiden ranks.

Punters should note that the ComputaForm form guides for all the local race meetings are still available for free download at tabonline.co.za.
