The Rand Club

-

In 2016 the Rand Club on Loveday Street in downtown Johannesburg reopened its doors after a series of refurbishments. In an attempt to remain financially viable and to draw people back to the club – a historically white, male only space – the committee decided to open its doors to nonmembers in offering some of its spaces as a functions venue and to invite members of the public to dine in the main bar area.

Dimly lit and moody with stained glass windows and carved wood detail, new touches to lift the dated feel of the club include Ardmore wallpaper, designed in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands by local women.

The Rand Club’s restaurant is open from Monday to Saturday from 7am until 7pm and the bar closes at 10pm. Private bookings can be made in a private room at an additional fee.

The club also hosts dinner and music events. The next event is Motown Jazz with Tamara Dey and the Rand Club Jazz Band on May 8 at 7pm.

To experience the opulence of a bygone era or to find out more about this building’s history, book a private tour before dinner.
