Cracker July on the cards

Best of the best all entered for Greyville showpiece

- By Racing Editor

Looking at the 54 horses entered for this year’s R2-million Vodacom Durban July, it won’t come as a surprise if racegoers are treated to one of the best races in decades come Saturday 3 July.

The current title holders of SA racing’s “Grand Slam” have all had their names thrown into the hat.

Belgarion, the defending champion, as well as Cape Town Met winner Rainbow Bridge, Queen’s Plate winner Jet Dark and Summer Pudding, winner of the Summer Cup, are all on the list of first entries for the country’s biggest race at Hollywoodbets Greyville over 2200m.

Do It Again, two-time July champion in 2018 and 2019 is also on the list, together with last year’s runner-up Got The Greenlight.

Triple Crown winner Malmoos and Triple Tiara winner War Of Athena have been entered, as well as the winner of both the Grade 1 Cape Fillies Guineas and the Grade 1 Majorca Stakes, Captain’s Ransom.

It is obvious that trainers across the country have set their sights on the big one and it will undoubtedly be a battle to the end to get a spot among the last 18 to face the starter.
