Podcast and Chill with MacG to keep things real even on TV

‘The show will not be censored on screen’

- By Emmanuel Tjiya

Macgyver Mukwevho promises that Podcast and Chill with MacG will remain unfiltered, raw and authentic after adding television as one of its broadcast platforms.

The controversial, yet popular podcast, with Mukwevho, Sol Phenduka and the mysterious Ghost Lady as hosts, will now air on Channel O from September 1.

With personal and uncensored celebrity interviews with the likes of Zola, Israel Matseke-Zulu, Sonia Mbele and Dineo Ranaka, it’s one of the top five most streamed podcasts in Mzansi.

New guests as it heads to TV will include Zahara, Kabelo Mabalane and more.

“The criticism will always be there and people will talk no matter what we do,” Mukwevho fires in response to criticism that the TV deal will tame the format of the show. “This is not foreign to us, we have had another TV deal before with Supa TV and we were not filtered and censored. Whatever deal we make, we make sure it’s on our terms.

“That’s why we have declined a lot of deals before that have tried to censor us, dictate and all of that. It’s an honour to be working with a brand like Channel O that said we just want you guys as you are.”

On YouTube, the podcast has over 250,000 subscribers.

“There is nothing that is going to be different about the show. This is just another platform to add to things we already have in a traditional platform like television.”

The first episode of the podcast was in July 2018.

“To be honest, when I started I never thought it would be this big and become the master that it is,” Mukwevho says.

“It’s more than welcomed because we just strive to do the best with each show. The more people that can watch it, the better for us.”

Mukwevho, a former child star, has worked for youth radio stations YFM and 947. He admits that the internet has empowered him as a young black creative. “It has changed my life and before Podcast and Chill I was down and out. I was unemployed and now I have become an employer.

“It has not only changed my life, but other like-minded people around me. Not only is it helping me and my family, but others out there.”
