Moletji residents air grievances to EFF leader Malema

Party reveals its candidates

Poor road infrastructure and persistent shortage of water are some of the problems faced by residents of MoletjiMoshate outside Polokwane in Limpopo.

Residents told Sowetan that water shortages in their area have been exacerbated by a broken community borehole which has remained unfixed for months. They now rely on inconsistent municipal water tanker to deliver water to their homes.

Phineas Mokgothwa from Ga-Mokgothwa village said he has been buying water from neighbours with boreholes on their properties.

“This is the third month since our community borehole was damaged after a transformer was stolen. But the government still fails to send water tankers on a weekly basis for alternative source of water,” he said.

Mokgothwa was one of the community members from several villages in Moletjie who gathered to listen to Economic Freedom Fighter leader Julius Malema who unveiled his party’s councillor candidates.

Alpheus Matladisha from Komape village said driving was difficult during the rainy season due muddy streets.

“We don’t have paved or tarred streets. Some areas in the village are not accessible due to lack of proper roads.”

Malema promised best services to potential voters.

“When the EFF government takes over Capricorn district municipality, we are going to provide a single tractor and seeds to every ward for residents to start farming. Those tractors will stay with a councillor or local headman so they can be accessible.

“We’re also fighting with Polokwane municipality and Eskom to provide services such as water and electricity for free to all social grant recipients,” Malema said.

He also promised residents that EFF councils will bring flushing toilets in rural areas.

“Look around the neighbouring farms, they have flushing toilets and those farmers made those out of their pockets. Why is the government failing to do the same to villagers with all money they have,” he asked. Malema further called on his party candidates to always avail themselves even if they lose the elections.

Kgabo Moloto III welcomed Malema in his area and called on his people to make their own choices on who to vote for. “Malema and his team are here to preach their gospel and it’s up to you if you dance to it. They are all my children and I can’t tell you who to vote for,” said the paramount traditional leader of the Moletjie region. Malema also gifted Moloto with a cow as token of respect.
