Uncle Partytime gets fans swaying to unique sound on dance floors
Quirky dress sense earned DJ his nickname and huge following
It’s not often that we find DJs who curate or create music that can be a spiritual journey
something that is on the mind of Lindokuhle Mabunda when he has many of his loyal fans swaying on dance floors.
The young star, who goes by the name Uncle Partytime, has been slowly amassing a growing fan base for his unmistakable melancholy sound. Having worked with the likes of Una Rams and the Boiler Room, it’s no surprise he has brought soulful local stars like Langa Mavuso to tears listening to his sets.
While he becomes the life of SA’s never-ending party, the life of the country’s party is going from the streets of Braamfontein, Johannesburg, to the world.
How did your music career begin?
It started off when my friends and I started linking up in Braamfontein to plan our own events in 2014 where we wanted to create a community of like-minded kids and that’s where I started being a DJ. Tell us about the meaning of your name and why has it stuck with you since?
The Uncle part of the name started off when I used to wear a lot of oversized chinos and my friends used to say I dress like an uncle. The Partytime part just came from people saying that everywhere I go is party time. So I just started moving as Uncle Partytime because it just made sense.
You have such an interesting approach to fashion. How would you best describe your current style and is fashion an important element of how you express yourself?
I used to go thrifting a lot with my mom in town and to be honest I always just wore what I liked till this day. There is no real inspiration to how I dress. All I want is to be comfortable, look good and smell good.
Was music your first love; any plans to branch into a different industry?
Before the music I had a clothing brand in 2013 called Public Invasion, so music was just a thing that I really fell in love with and my love for music has grown ever since. I’m currently working on branching out to other things that I really love and appreciate, but until then music is currently what I’m working on.
