Arrows shoot down frustrated Amakhosi

Tempers flare up as Chief winless streak extends

- By Athenkosi Tsotsi

Kaizer Chiefs are still without a win under interim co-coaches Dillon Sheppard and Arthur Zwane after falling 2-1 to Golden Arrows in the DStv Premiership at Princess Magogo Stadium yesterday.

Arrows clawed back from a goal down to take full points in a pulsating match played in perfect conditions in Durban.

Khama Billiat gave Chiefs the lead in the first half after connecting with a cleverly played pass from within the 18yard box by Leonard Castro in the 18th minute.

However, a spirited performance by the home side in the second stanza, gave Amakhosi a torrid time. It was on the onehour mark that Arrows finally found the equaliser, via Siboniso Conco.

Michael Gumede made sure the points stayed in Durban as he scored the winner for Arrows in the 87th, and thus extending Chiefs winless streak to four matches, with three losses in a row.

The loss also means that Chiefs’ aspiration to qualify for the CAF Champions League has been dented. They need to finish second to achieve that, the spot currently held down by Royal AM with 45 points.

With 39 points after 25 matches, Chiefs are six points off target but with a game in hand. For Arrows, they keep their hopes of making the top eight as they are in ninth place with 35 points. Abafana Bes’Thende are level on points with eight placed SuperSport United.

There was an ugly scene on Chiefs bench when Njabulo Ngcobo refused to shake hands with Zwane after he was replaced with Daniel Cardoso.

Ngcobo was reprimanded by goalkeeper coach Lee Baxter but he shoved him away as well, prompting senior players Bernard Parker and Ramahlwe Mphahlele to calm him down.
