Huge Pick 6 for EC Derby Day
One of the Eastern Cape’s major racedays takes place at Fairview in Port Elizabeth on Friday and the TAB Pick 6 pool on the meeting will be boosted by a R500,000 carryover.
The R350,000 World Sports Betting East Cape Derby, a Listed event over 2400m, headlines the meeting and is supported by the 1200m Listed Dahlia Plate for two-year-olds and seven other races.
It was decided to allocate a Pick 6 carryover to the Fairview meeting in recognition of the area’s contribution to TAB’s carryover reserves.
The pool is likely to reach R2 million. As expected, trainers from the Western Cape will be bringing runners to Fairview to compete in the Derby and all of Justin Snaith, Candice Bass-Robinson, Glen Kotzen and Andre Nel have runners in the event while KwaZulu-Natal-based Kom Naidoo, who has a yard in Port Elizabeth, has four challengers.
What will make life tricky for bettors is that only two of the runners, both trained by Zietsman Oosthuizen, have run over the distance.
The local challenge is headed up by Gavin Smith with three runners while Alan Greeff and Oosthuizen have two each.
