Pick 6 bonanza today at Fairview

- By Racing Editor

Topping every punter’s to-do list today should be taking a Pick 6 bet on the Fairview race meeting.

TAB have topped up the pool with a R500,000 carryover, and the final pool is likely to reach R2-million.

The main race at Fairview, the Listed World Sports Betting East Cape Derby over 2400m, have seen a flotilla of trainers from the Western Cape make their way to Gqeberha in search of feature race honours and a share of the R350,000 stakes pot.

Over Two You, trained by Candice Bass-Robinson and with Aldo Domeyer in the saddle, could well spring a surprise.

The banker bet on the day is Global Drummer, who lines up in Race 5, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1200m. This Global View gelding has won 15 of his 19 career runs.

Tomorrow sees the running of the Listed East Cup over 2000m as well as the Grade 2 WSB 1900 at Greyvillle.

Two-time Durban July winner Do It Again makes his first KZN appearance of the season in the latter event, where he is expected to give a solid performance despite coming off a break of 105 days.

Five of his eight career victories have come on the Greyville Turf Track. With Anton Marcus up, he looks hard to oppose.

The main event on Sunday at Turffontein is the Listed Syringa Handicap for fillies and mares over 1600m.

Homely Girl, trained by Johan Janse van Vuuren, will be aiming to break her run of runner-up finishes here. She stands out as one of the best bets on the card.

On the international front, 12 races will be contested tomorrow at Kranji in Singapore, while 10 races are carded for Sha Tin in Hong Kong on Sunday.

South Africa’s Lyle Hewitson is experiencing quite a purple patch in Hong Kong and it might pay to keep a close eye on this former SA champion jockey.

The highlight of the weekend in the UK is undoubtedly the Grade 1 Al Shabiq Lockinge Stakes over 1600m heads on Saturday at Newbury.

The William Haggis-trained Baaeed, unbeaten in six starts, will be all the rage to keep that record intact.

No matter where the racing is, it’s always better to bet with TAB, as you always get the full payout while supporting the local racing industry
