Mahlangu plays pivotal role in SA/UK movie project

Ace producer excited shooting about to start

Five international film stars are set to take part in a SA/UK film called Stolen.

The film to be shot in the UK and Durban will feature British actress Christine Adams, Haitian actor and producer Jimmy Jean Louis, television, theatre and film actress Noxolo Dlamini, Luka Peros from Croatia, Michael Landes from the US and London-born actress Danielle Harold.

Supported by the KwaZuluNatal Film Commission, the shooting of the film starts in the UK next month and the SA scene will follow in July.

The film is produced by Uzanenkosi Mahlangu and directed by Sheridan De Myers.

Stolen tells a story of Seline, whose life takes a tragic turn when her teenage daughter Tenika is involved in a fatal shooting in the streets of Durban while on holiday in SA. Seline flies over to identify her daughter’s body, only to discover the police have identified someone else as her daughter.

Speaking to Sowetan, Mahlangu cannot wait to fly to the UK next month to start the shooting for the film. He said the project was supposed to have been filmed two years ago but it was delayed by the outbreak of Covid-19.

“I am excited that the film is finally going to production. It might have been delayed but somehow I feel it is the right time to shoot it. I believe that if we had shot it two years ago we would not have the great cast we have.

“Around 2018, the KZN Film Commission brought UK producers and filmmakers to KZN so that filmmakers can network. I met Shantelle Rochester, who had a film and was looking for collaboration. We seemed to click and vibed, that is why we decided to collaborate. I hope this collaboration will launch my international profile.

“The team has worked meticulously on the project, ensuring that both countries are well represented in terms of the storyline, the cast and crew. We would like to thank the KZN Film Commission for its continued support, not for us only but for the whole of the KZN filmmaking community,” Mahlangu said.

He said the final product will be ready in November.

Mahlangu has produced successful television programmes such as All You Need Is Love, Intersexion, and Big Brother Africa.
