Ceciliah Kadiege tried in vain to reach her husband, principal of HL Setlalentoa Secondary School in GaRankuwa, on Saturday as she wanted to find out how far he was from home as it was late.

It was 10pm and Moses Kadiege was unreachable, after leaving his house in Brits in the morning. She went to report him missing.

A car-tracking company traced his car to Moiletswane, near Klipgat, North West.

The body of the 56-year-old was found in bushes in Winterveldt, north of Pretoria, on Sunday morning. His sister Alvinah Nkale told of his injuries when she and Ceciliah went to identify his body at the George Mukhari Hospital.

“His forehead was very swollen, under his right eye and his lips,” said Nkale, adding that she suspects he was also strangled.

Provincial police spokesperson Col Dimakatso Sello said no arrests have been made.

“The motive of the murder is unknown at this stage and the police in Loate [police station in Winterveldt] will continue with investigations,” said Sello.

Kadiege and Ceciliah had three children. A family friend Ernest Hlungwani said: “I am shattered by his passing. I still don’t believe that he is gone. He was always full of jokes and full of life. A very entertaining man he was. What I mostly adored about him was that he always put his family first.

“As far as we know, there were no threats [to his life] that we are aware of.”

Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi said no stone will be left unturned.

“As the government, we need to protect our staff members because if we don’t, we won’t receive the best as no one will want to come and work in such a dangerous environment,” said Lesufi.

“We can’t allow this to be another statistic and just accept it.”
