I didnt fail in Europe, says Zungu

‘Return was a family decision’

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu insists he didn’t fail in Europe and that personal issues were the reason for his to return to SA.

Zungu, pictured rejoined the Brazilians after stints in France, Portugal and Scotland, where he turned out for the likes of Rangers in the Scottish League, Vitoria Guimaraes in the Portuguese first division and Amiens SC in the French Ligue 1.

Speaking during the Carling Black Label score predictor launch in Sandton, Zungu said he has no regrets about his career.

“Nothing went wrong. I made a decision with my family to come back to SA. I had personal reasons why I had to come back,” Zungu explained to the media yesterday.

“And I don’t have regrets about my career. It’s just like anything in life, you go through ups and downs and that’s what happened with me and I’m not the last person, other people do face similar situations.

“Coming back doesn’t mean there was something wrong or I failed. People can say whatever, but I’m happy I came from nothing, I worked hard to play in Europe.

“I’m happy my family is proud and now I’m at Sundowns I have to help the team reach greater heights.”

Zungu also revealed that he is working hard to regain his fitness after he was told to work on his weight by coach Rulani Mokwena.

And while other players are currently off due to the Fifa World Cup in Qatar, Zungu continues to work on his fitness in Chloorkop.

“When I signed with Sundowns, it happened quickly and physically, I was not ready yet. Obviously, in time, my best will come,” said Zungu, who added he will be fit when they face Pirates on December 31.
