Schnarr was shot outside Kruger
Three men are expected to appear in court on Monday in connection with the murder of a German tourist in Mpumalanga, bringing the number of accused to four.
The trio aged between 25 and 38 were nabbed in separate places on Wednesday and Thursday. They are accused of shooting Jorg Schnarr, 67, twice while he and his wife and another German couple were traveling along Numbi Road which leads to the Kruger National Park on October 3.
“Three suspects alleged to be involved in the murder of a German tourist last month next to Kruger National Park’s Numbi Gate were arrested.
“One was cornered at a certain retail store in Nelspruit (Mbombela),” said provincial police spokesperson Brig Selvy Mohlala.
He said one of the accused was found driving a Toyota Tazz believed to have been used after the attack on the tourists.
“Further probe by the astute members led to the arrest of two more suspects around Elukwatini and Badplaas. One of the two suspects was allegedly found in possession of a white Toyota Tazz. A firearm with its serial numbers filled off was recovered during the arrest as well as about eleven live ammunition and some jamming devices found in his possession,” Mohlala said.
The other suspect in the matter Napoleon Joseph Nyalunga was denied bail by the Kabokweni magistrate’s court recently.
Mohlala said the accused would appear in court on Monday.
He said a sting operation led to the arrest of other suspects who were terrorising people in Piet Retief in Mkhondo municipality.
“On Friday, two suspects, both aged 43, alleged to be involved in a spate of business robberies around Piet Retief were also arrested in Matsulu and Tekwane West. A report shows that an intelligence driven operation was conducted by members from Mpumalanga Provincial Task Team, Piet Retief Crime Intelligence, Tracing and locating as well as Piet Retief Detectives after information surfaced on the whereabouts of a suspect who was driving a silver grey VW Polo.
“He was cornered by the members at the said retail store and upon investigation, it was established that he could be involved in a string of business robberies around Piet Retief, Ermelo and Bethal,” said Mohlala.
The suspects are also expected to appear in court on Monday.
