Sowetan has traced the white pitbull owner who called for the killing of black men and the removal of black women’s uteruses because they were “worse than pitbulls” to her home in Ekurhuleni.

The woman made the racist utterances via a voicenote she sent to a WhatsApp group of fellow pitbull owners and lovers.

The Human Rights Commission said yesterday that it was still tracing the woman.

Sowetan has established that the woman behind the voice note is Belinda Magor, 60, who provides bookkeeping and administrative services to businesses around Ekurhuleni.

She lives on a remote plot in Putfontein, Benoni. The voice note was shared in the WhatsApp group for pitbull owners called Pitbulls Be My Voice on Monday morning. The group has hundreds of members from different races across the country, who were left in shock by Magor’s racial utterances.

In the voice note, she could be heard saying that black men are “worse than pitbulls”.

“Ban the black man. They rape, steal and kill, worse than any pitbull could, and they get away with it. Ban those that are making the laws, ban Ekurhuleni, ban the black man.

“Get all the black women and cut out their uteruses and ovaries that they cannot procreate because they will all turn out the same because they are all the same… Kill them, shoot them, and get rid of them because they are the problem, not pitbulls, not animals…

“God created those animals.

Who created the black man? Do you think God did, I don’t think so,” said Magor.

Her outburst came during a discussion about the spate of attacks that pitbulls have been waging on children in recent weeks, which led to some people calling for the total ban of the breed as pets.

When we visited her address yesterday, a man in overalls opened the gate and came out of the yard and confirmed that Magor lived in that house and was in her room. When asked to call her, he said she was an old woman. Sowetan then called her cellphone number but she did not answer or respond to our text messages seeking her comment.

The WhatsApp group administrator, Adrian Grewar, said he was alerted to the voice note by the chairperson of the Pit Bull Federation of SA. He said by the time he tried to listen to the voice note, it had been deleted.

“I understood the severity of the message and closed the group down while I took action on the matter. I immediately went to report the matter to South Port police station. I laid a formal charge [crimen injuria]. I was informed I would be given a case number, which has not been issued to date.

“Neither I, nor my other admins in any way knew the person who sent the message and were shocked by the content of the message. I will cooperate with the police in any way I am asked to,” said Grewar.

Police had not responded to Sowetan’s inquiries by the time of going to print.

SAHRC spokesperson Wisani Baloyi said the commission was currently tracing Magor. “... the tracing will form part of our internal process, as such we are not in a position to provide more details on this.

“The commission responds to prima facie hate speech in one of two ways, namely (a) to conduct an investigation or (b) to bring court proceedings. The assessment will determine the action taken by the commission,” said Baloyi.

Baloyi added that the commission was shocked and disheartened by the clip. He said they will take the necessary steps after finalising the assessment of the matter.

Using the cellphone number that Magor used to send the voice note to the WhatsApp group, Sowetan used a consumer trace which led its reporters to a business address in Putfontein where Magor lives.

The property is in a secluded plot in an area where some of her neighbours own pitbulls.
