815 Sus­pects ar­res­ted

SOUTH CAPE On­going Sa­fer Fes­ti­ve Se­a­son o­pe­ra­ti­ons in the Sout­hern Cape re­sul­ted in the ar­rest of 815 sus­pects for va­ri­ous of­fen­ces du­ring o­pe­ra­ti­ons, which com­men­ced on T­hurs­day e­ve­ning, 27 De­cem­ber and con­ti­nu­ed in­to Sun­day mor­ning, 30 De­cem­ber T­he­se o­pe­ra­ti­ons we­re de­sig­ned to in­cre­a­se the sa­fe­ty of all in­ha­bi­tants, vi­si­tors and ho­li­day­ma­kers. The o­pe­ra­ti­ons in­clu­ded ro­ad­blocks, stop and se­arch o­pe­ra­ti­ons, vi­sits to li­quor out­lets, foot­and-be­ach pa­trols, en­han­ced vi­si­bi­li­ty through vehi­cle pa­trols, re­gu­lar vi­sits to shop­ping cen­tres and the de­tecti­on of wan­ted sus­pects. Sus­pects we­re ar­res­ted for se­ri­ous and vi­o­lent cri­mes, d­rug-re­la­ted of­fen­ces, dri­ving mo­tor vehi­cles whil­st un­der the in­flu­en­ce of li­quor as well as pos­ses­si­on of un­li­cen­sed fi­re­arms. The po­li­ce ur­ge all ro­ad u­sers and pe­de­stri­ans a­li­ke, to o­bey the ru­les of the ro­ad and to ad­he­re to ro­ad sig­na­ge. Dri­ving whil­st un­der the in­flu­en­ce of li­quor will not be to­le­ra­ted and per­pe­tra­tors will be ar­res­ted. All the ar­res­ted sus­pects are ex­pected to ap­pear in va­ri­ous courts in the Sout­hern Cape w­he­re they will fa­ce the char­ges a­gainst them.
