Yes, Terminator will be back -- in 2015

-

AFTER years of uncertainty, the Terminator will officially be returning.

Paramount Pictures, which signed up to be a partner on the new Terminator film, has announced that a new stand-alone trilogy will be made.

Since the 2009 film Terminator: Salvation, which was made without either Arnold Schwarzenegger or Linda Hamilton, the future of the Terminator franchise has looked uncertain. After the fifth Terminator film was announced a few years ago and director Justin Liu joined then left, everything seemed to go quiet.

But now a formal announcement, complete with a release date, has been made.

According to Paramount, Laeta Kalorgridis ( Avatar ) and Patrick Lussier ( Drive Angry) are attached to write the screenplay. The first of the new rebooted trilogy will arrive in cinemas on June 26 2015.

The franchise, which first launched in 1984, has earned more than $1-billion (about R10-billion) worldwide.

No mention was made of who will star in the film, or whether Schwarzenegger will reprise his most famous role.

But he told an Australian audience earlier this month that he would indeed be back, saying: “I’m very happy that the studios want me to be in Terminator 5 and to star as the Terminator, which we will start shooting in January.”

So 2015 looks set to be a busy one, with several bigbudget sequels scheduled for release, including Independence Day 2, Pirates of the Caribbean 5, Star Wars: Episode VII and The Avengers 2. —
