All-star blast from the past to rock Durban

South African greats will strut their stuff in old-school show

■ MERVYN Pillay’s latest comic offering, Bollywood Comedy Nite, will be at Durban’s Sibaya Casino’s iZulu Theatre for two nights on August 9 and 10. Tickets through Computicke­t start at R100 each.

■ WATCH It’s A Mad Pagla World at Durban’s Sibaya Casino’s iZulu Theatre on July 12 and 13 at 8pm. Vishwa Shakti promises a dance drama featuring sprinkles of comedy and beautiful imported costumes. Tickets to the shows start at R100 through Computicke­t.

■ SEE the wonderful Wizard of Oz ballet at the University of Johannesbu­rg’s Arts Centre from July 12 to 14. The story is told through multimedia elements and dance. Tickets are R120 each through Computicke­t.

■ CAN You Feel It?, this year’s Rainbow Young Performers production, is on stage at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Glenwood, Durban, until July 14. The show’s creators have upended the traditiona­l musical format in favour of something with “great singing, dance, and physical theatre with a distinct ‘Cirque du Soleil’ feel”. ■ BLAST From The Past is an all-star South African old-school production featuring Cyril Francis of the Jets, Idries Fredericks, Steve Fataar of The Flames and Dee Sharma’s Dukes Combo. Five young women from each pageant will proceed to Miss India Gauteng. The winner will progress to the Miss India South Africa and possibly Miss India Worldwide pageants.
