DR Randall Carolissen has been elected chairman of the University of the Witwatersrand’s council, and Dr Brian Bruce has been chosen as his deputy.
Carolissen obtained a PhD in solid-state physics from the University of the Western Cape in 1995 and has an honours degree in business administration from the University of Stellenbosch, as well as an MBA.
Carolissen began his career in 1982 as a production engineer at Firestone South Africa in Port Elizabeth and since then has held senior positions at the South African Bureau of Standards and the South African Revenue Services, among others.
Bruce has a BSc in civil engineering, among other qualifications. He joined Murray & Roberts Holdings Limited in 1967 and has served in various capacities in the group, including as group chief executive officer of Murray & Roberts Holdings from 2000 until 2011.
He is chairman of Wits engineering and the built environment faculty advisory board and is a member of the same faculty’s advisory board at the University of Cape Town.
He is chairman of the Construction Industry Development Board. ZURICH Insurance Company South Africa has appointed Collin Molepe chief operations officer, Nicholas Francis chief marketing officer, Tammy Heydenrych group company secretary and Seef Botha general counsel.
Molepe joins Zurich South Africa from Absa Insurance Company. Before that he was a divisional manager at Discovery Health.
Francis joined Zurich in June 2012, before which he worked at Absa Insurance Company and AIG.
Heydenrych previously held the position of senior group legal adviser and was subsequently appointed as the assistant group company secretary at Zurich. She is also the company secretary for Zurich South Africa’s local subsidiaries, Zurich Life South Africa Limited and Zurich Risk Financing South Africa.
Botha joined Zurich in September 2010 as senior compliance officer. Before joining Zurich, he worked as a specialist legal adviser and compliance consultant. SYNERGY Income Fund has appointed Anton Raubenheimer financial director. He replaces Uys Meyer. Meyer, one of the founders of Synergy Income Fund, will remain on its board as a nonexecutive director.
Raubenheimer is a chartered accountant with about 15 years’ experience.
Before joining Synergy, Raubenheimer was managing director of Retail Africa Asset Management.
Before this, he was managing director and financial director of Fountainhead Property Trust and head of business development for Virgin Active South Africa.
