Jacques Blignaut has been a passionate actor since his high school days. After completing a degree in performance arts at the University of the Witwatersrand, he got his first big break on e.tv’s daily soapie ’Scandal’. He can now be seen in the Afrikaans soapie ’7de Laan’, in which he plays the role of deli owner Vince Meintjies. He talks to Tshepo Mashego
What did your childhood teach you about money? What was your first job and how much were you paid?
Are you an easy tipper? Are you responsible with money? Have you ever been really hard up?
Are you a saver or a spender? What is your biggest money weakness? What has been your biggest extravagance? What is the one thing you wish you had never bought?
My lessons about money were always quite simple — you can’t always get what you want. I wish I’d learned how to manage my finances better, but your parents can only teach you so much. Being good with money comes with practice, I reckon.
My first professional acting job was on Egoli and I think I got paid R1 000 per call.
I believe in tipping waiters well. It’s a tough job.
I’m really not very responsible with money. It’s terrible. I’m working on it, though.
If by “hard up” you mean broke or struggling, yes, there have been times, but somehow God always gets me through.
I do save, at least, but I’m much more of a spender.
