The guy with the ‘velvety, sexy voice’

Dishy ex-model lands dream job at 5fm

RISING broadcaster Vic Naidoo makes the news sound “sexy” and has won the hearts of many with his velvety voice.

Naidoo lives by the Confucius saying: “Choose a job you love and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

For as long as the 25-year-old Sandton resident can remember, he has always wanted to be a newsreader on SABC’s popular radio station, 5fm.

His dream came true two months ago when he landed the job on the weekend breakfast shows — Thomas Msengana’s Weekend Breakfast with Thomas from 7am to 10am and KB Ngakane’s Krazyboy Weekends from 2pm to 5pm.

“I have been on radio for the last eight years and worked as a newsreader and anchor on TV news,” said Naidoo.

“I have found a home at 5fm. I love coming to work, even though I have to be here at 6.30am every weekend. I work with a fantastic team and enjoy what I do.”

Naidoo, who also produces news bulletins and does voice-overs, was born in Port Elizabeth. He moved to Durban and completed his matric at Protea Secondary School in Bayview, Chatsworth.

He studied a BA humanities degree at the University of Johannesburg and worked at the university’s radio station, UJFM, during that time.

After graduating in 2008, he joined the magazine Africa Investor. He then moved on to SAfm to become a sports presenter for two years and, later, a newsreader — while also working at Radio 2000.

In 2011, Naidoo tried his hand on TV as SABC’sWeekend Live newsreader. Thereafter, he moved to e.tv’s Sunrise Weekend show.

The dishy Naidoo, who prefers radio to TV, has also done some modelling over the years.

“I’ve waited five years to be part of the 5fm team and am glad I never stopped trying. Being in the media, no two days are the same.

“There are times when I get nervous before going on air, but I always talk myself out of panic . . . We are judged by our last bulletin. I always strive for excellence.”

Naidoo’s growing fan base on social media sites is proof that he is doing a good job. He is often complimented for his “velvety, sexy voice”— and is a big hit with the opposite sex.

He said DJ Fresh and Gareth Cliff inspired him to aspire to work at 5fm because “they always seemed to be having a great time on air”.

He shared five secrets about himself that nobody knows and the important things that make him tick.

“I’m secretive, afraid of deep water, I like hands and feet, I’m shy and I love bling.

“My mom, Vijay, is my biggest critic and listens to all my news updates. I enjoy going to the gym and playing squash, and I am big on reading books about positive thinking,” said Naidoo.

For now, Naidoo is taking good advice and living his best life — enjoying every new day while paving the way to an even brighter and more successful future.
