Sound and light show in a multiscreen dream

Club founder wins prizes with car that offers back-seat Bollywood

AFTER being ribbed about his rather “average” wheels, Trison Pillay decided the best way to silence his friends was to make a few cosmetic changes to his beloved car.

Pillay, 21, worked tirelessly to transform his 2009 Golf Mk1 into an entertainment centre with six mini-DVD screens, a motorised sun roof and a beverage holder in the boot.

The car — minus the techno show — was a gift from his parents, Jackson and Shirley.

“That’s what makes it so special to me.

“It is my special car and I have

“I have the utmost passion for ensuring that my cars are continuously upgraded with the best music systems. Entering car shows is something I thoroughly enjoy

no intention to sell at all. It will always have a place in my life because it came from my parents and I was able to build it up slowly.”

Pillay, a business development consultant from Umbilo in Durban, has upgraded the car’s seats to oxblood red and added 17-inch chrome spinner rims.

But his favourite part of the car is the sound system.

It makes for an impressive feature with two Rockford 12-inch P2 subs, two Rockford Splits with mids and tweeters per system, two Rockford amplifiers, a Perspex sub box and speaker moulds.

Humorous stickers such as “Be patient, I’m lowered” and “Built, not bought” adorn the car.

Since pimping out the vehicle, Pillay has entered show-and-shine competitions across KwaZuluNatal, regularly securing a top-three finish.

Recently, Pillay competed in the Genser Car Show in Clairwood, where the Golf placed second, despite losing one of its spinners on the way to the show.

Pillay’s passion for all things motor related was ignited when he started working on his car.

This inspired him to create his own car club, Streetglow, which has attracted more than 25 car enthusiasts.

“When I got the car, it was stock standard. This is just what I imagined. As I went along, I started getting more and more involved. So we thought why not? And we’ve been growing since.”

Pillay’s plans for the Golf are to see it become a full-time showcase car.

“I want to strip out the back seats and put in six subs. The car already receives a lot of attention.

“I have the utmost passion for ensuring my cars [he owns a Renault Clio Sport as well] are continuously upgraded with the best music systems.

“Entering various car shows is something I thoroughly enjoy doing and have won a lot of trophies.”
