Politics makes for a light crowd pleaser

KEDI BILLA KILLADI RANGA (9/10)

-

INTRODUCTION

PANDIRAJ , the acclaimed director of Pasanga and Marina, enters a new genre of filmmaking with his latest film, which stars Sivakarthigeyan, Vimal, Regina Cassandra, Bindu Madhavi, Soori, Delhi Ganesh, Manoj Kumar and Sujatha.

STORY

KEDI Billa Killadi Ranga is one of those rare films that features virtually every type of humour. It tells the tale of two close friends — Pattai Murugan (Sivakarthigeyan) and Theni Kesavan (Vimal) — whose main aspiration is to be elected as a politician.

They work tirelessly and shamelessly to provide support to the local politician, who has no intention of ever seeing them as anything other than toadies. Murugan and Kesavan find romance, but they are challenged by their circumstances because neither of them has steady employment.

PERFORMANCES

SIVAKARTHIGEYAN proves again that he is a fine and versatile actor with a wide repertoire. In this film he uses his comedic skill to the maximum, slipping effortlessly from mimicry and satire to wit and even slapstick.

Vimal refuses to take second place and gives an equally spirited performance. Cassandra and Madhavi are both delightful in their respective roles. Soori delivers another memorable performance that combines good acting and perfect comedic timing. Ganesh as Chidambaram is the best of the rest.

DIRECTION

PANDIRAJ has delivered another winner and it has a higher entertainment dose than his previous films.

CINEMATOGRAPHY

VIJAY’S cinematography is impressive in the outdoor scenes in which great liberties are taken with the use of filters.

SCREENPLAY AND SCRIPTING

PANDIRAJ’S screenplay does not boast a rapid pace, but the wide variety of humour to cater for every taste ensures that there is never a dull moment. As in his other films, Pandiraj also has a

sound message for everyone in Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga.

MUSIC

YUVANSHANKAR RAJA’s soundtrack is varied and memorable and the song Suda

Suda is the best of the numbers. His background score, however, falls somewhat short of his usual high standards.

OVERALL

IT is an enjoyable, light-hearted film with a memorable message for everyone.
