Comedians are out in farce

Prepare for a case of Mass Hysteria

COMEDY

CHAROUS and Bruinos 2013 takes back to Durban’s BAT Centre the comic force that is Neville Pillay, Afzal Khan, Robby Collins, Richelieu B and Masood Boomgaard on August 30. Tickets to the 8pm comedy show are R120 each through Computicke­t.

THE “comedy cabinet” of some of SA’s favourite local comedians is back in session with the Mass Hysteria show at Cape Town’s Grand West casino (Friday and Saturday), Johannesbu­rg’s Teatro at Montecasin­o (August 28 to 31) and Port Elizabeth’s Boardwalk casino (September 7).

With the slogan Funnier Than Parliament, the comedy this year features Casper de Vries, Nik Rabinowitz, Joey Rasdien, Chester Missing, Ndumiso Lindi, John Vlismas, Tumi Morake, Mpho Popps Modikoane and Kurt Schoonraad. Tickets begin at R145 each through Computicke­t.

ART

VISIT the Durban Art Gallery at the Durban City Hall for a look at its Women’s Month exhibition, Conversati­ons We Do Not Have: Acquiescen­ce, which opened on Friday and lasts until September 11.

It features narrative art and includes works of different media from as far back as the 19th century as well as examples of clothing used to define women, such as Indian bridal wear, beaded pieces, burkas and lace work. Gallery hours are 8.30am to 4pm on Mondays to Saturdays and 11am to 4pm on Sundays. Entrance is free.

FUNDRAISIN­G

RAISE funds to renovate the priests’ quarters of the Durban’s Newlands West Narainsamy temple by taking part in a charity golf day on August 28 at the Papwa Sewgolum Golf Course.

His daughter and disciple, Sunandaji, will present a series of free talks titled Goal of Life at the same venue from Thursday to Sunday at 6.30pm. She will discuss the art of living, based on the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.

HELLO? Is it speed you’re looking for? Then the Strictly Street motoring event at the East London Grand Pix Circuit is where you need to be on August 31. The show will feature drag racing, spinning, a show-and-shine segment and new additions — a stance lineup and lowerlympi­cs. Tickets are R40 each through Computicke­t. It begins at 8am.

TICKETS are on sale for the much-anticipate­d first South Africa India Film And Television Awards. The awards ceremony is the first of its kind and brings Bollywood to Durban to facilitate talent from both countries.

Stars of Indian cinema such as Jacqueline Fernandez and Diya Mirza will grace it. It takes place at the Durban Internatio­nal Convention Centre on September 6. Tickets range from R350 to R3 500 and are available through Computicke­t.
