Author crashes rare R3m Ferrari
AWARD-WINNING author Melinda Ferguson’s motoring blog Girl Torque invites readers to talk wheels, heels and journeys in between.
And talking they are. Ferguson was behind the wheel of a R3.2-million Ferrari California when it was involved in an accident in Johannesburg this week.
The convertible GT, which packs 338 kW of V8 power, was in a collision with a Mitsubishi Pajero.
Ferguson, author of the bestselling memoir Smacked — which documented her battle
with drug addiction — and the inspirational The Kelly Khu
malo Story, could not be reached for comment.
She is the features and motoring editor at True Love magazine.
Chanelle Zackey, assistant marketing manager at Viglietti Motors in Johannesburg, confirmed the accident.
“We cannot comment at this stage because we are still waiting for the police case. We can confirm that one of our demos, a Ferrari California, was involved.
“We cannot go into details about how and why the accident happened until the investigation is completed,” Zackey said.
The mangled sports car, the first Ferrari Granturismo with a mid-front 8-cylinder engine, is at a Viglietti’s panel shop waiting to be assessed.
“Our main concern at this point is that everyone involved came out of it all right. No one was injured,” Zackey said.
Motor racing enthusiast and radio personality Sasha Martinengo posted photographs of the wrecked vehicle on Facebook and Twitter. Motoring blog Zero 2 Turbo reported that medics treated people at the scene of the crash for minor injuries.
