My Brilliant Career
You own a Jawitz Properties franchise — what does your job involve?
It obviously involves building up a book of properties that are for sale, helping buyers and sellers through the sales process, and setting sales and revenue targets for me and my team. But as a franchise owner, it also involves managing all aspects of the business.
My challenge is that I always want to provide a professional service, and I have to ensure that all my employees have the same values. My goal is to secure a financial future for my family and for my employees. To achieve that, I have to employ the right people in the right positions and instil the right work ethic and principles throughout my business. Before becoming involved in the property industry you worked in the engineering industry. What made you change your career?
In 2007, I already knew I wanted to change careers but I was not sure what move to make. It was only in 2010, when I bought myself a house, renovated it and sold it, that I realised I wanted to be in the property industry — buying properties and then renovating and selling them. I attended as many auctions as I could in early 2011, but I soon realised I needed more experience in the property industry, so I began to investigate becoming a real estate agent, and here I am today. How does your experience in engineering help you in your work with property?
I think my engineering experience has helped me understand the foundations of property structures and maintenance, which has assisted me in my work as a real estate agent. I have an understanding of property that allows me to assess homes properly, and I think this adds to what I can offer clients looking to sell or buy property. I worked as a maintenance manager for 12 years, so I had to manage people and stick to the budget I was given. This experience has also helped me with running my business today. I have worked with so many different people over the years, and still do today, and am privileged to have that experience.
