Mind-boggling behaviour
YOUR commendable exposé of Makhosini Nkosi, the police chief’s spin doctor, ‘‘Phiyega’s fixer runs a brothel’’ (September 15), is the ongoing saga of political patronage that allows individuals to behave without any feeling of wrongdoing or feeling uncomfortable in the depths of depravity to which they plummet.
It is really mind-boggling that people behave in such an irresponsible and unlawful manner and believe that they are entitled to take advantage of whatever opportunity comes their way, without concern for the consequences. Is it because they don’t care or understand what is expected of them, or do they think they are immune and protected by their status?
Then the premier of the Northern Cape, ‘‘Premier blows R50 000 in fastfood spree’’ (September 15), claims that she is the victim of the “tall tree’’ syndrome — as though that excuses her irresponsible behaviour. Most of us pray for a turnaround of the incompetence and cavalier attitude so often displayed by those in authority so that this country can come right. — Ted O’Connor, Albertskroon
A case of demand and supply
WHY not? Nkosi must continue to run his brothel. He is creating employment for the girls and offering pleasure to those looking for it. It’s a simple case of willing buyer, willing seller. — Clement Matloha, Soweto
