Triumph of good over great evil
ACTOR turned filmmaker Rakesh Roshan gave his fans a Diwali to remember this year.
Roshan has enjoyed amazing success at the box office over decades — incidentally with films that all started with the letter K ( Kishen Kanaiyaa, Karan Ajrun, Khoon Bhari Mang) and mainly featuring his son Hrithik. In his latest offering, the third instalment in the Krrish franchise, the father and son team earned the highest single day’s take at the Bollywood box office.
Amitabh Bachchan’s voice-over at the start of the movie provides a quick flashback to the journey of Krrish , a young boy with extraordinary strength who is hidden from the world and ultimately becomes a much loved superhero. Krrish (Hrithik Roshan) has settled down to a comfortable life with his journalist wife Priya (Priyanka Chopra) and scientist dad Rohit (also played by Hrithik). However, their world is turned upside down when a strange virus invades Namibia and soon makes its way to India, with deadly consequences. Father and son team up to quickly find a cure, but in the process they encounter the powerful Kaal (Vivek Oberoi) and Kaya (Kangana Ranaut).
Rakesh Roshan deserves a standing ovation for taking gigantic strides in Indian cinema and delivering a movie that is superior to some of Hollywood’s most technically acclaimed products. He remains faithful to the charm and honesty of his previous movies and brilliantly ensures a heart-warming and captivating experience about the triumph of good over evil. The special effects are world-class and ultimately it becomes an exhilarating and power-packed experience with a justified story.
Hrithik Roshan yet again is magnificent in the title role and shows his versatility and class when he plays the scientist. Chopra is gorgeous and does justice to her role, but it is the baddies who get to shine. Oberoi gets to express his work with facial expressions, heavy dialogue and his eyes, and he grabs the opportunity with class and delivers a menacing performance. Ranaut is a revelation and possibly the most gorgeous mutant in the world. The talented actress breathes fire into her role and is one of the highlights with a meatier role than Chopra.
The electrifying hype and excitement — along with a good story — make this one of the most memorable experiences of Indian cinema ever.
If, like me, you enjoy fantasy adventures, Krrish 3 is a whirlwind experience.
I can’t wait for Krrish 4.
