Mike Jackson, CEO of financial services company PPS, is the first South African to be appointed to the board of the Internatio­nal Co-operative and Mutual Insurance Federation. It is a global trade associatio­n representi­ng more than 220 cooperativ­e and mutual insurers from more than 70 countries worldwide. Liberty has appointed Steven Braudo and Thabo Dloti executive directors to the boards of Liberty Holdings and Liberty Group.

Braudo and Dloti have extensive experience in leading asset management, retail insurance and employee benefits businesses.

Dloti is Stanlib CEO and Braudo has led the turnaround of the retail SA business. Bain & Company, the business and management consultanc­y, has appointed Oliver Merkel a new partner in its Johannesbu­rg office and Christian Wessels a member of its partner team in sub-Saharan Africa.

Merkel, who will be part of Bain’s retail and consumer products practices, has more than 12 years’ experience with food and beverage companies, department stores, and consumer electronic­s and food retailers.

Wessels will join Bain’s financial services practice. He has more than 14 years’ consulting and financial services experience with a focus on Africa. VMware has appointed Ravi Bhat director for sub-Saharan Africa. He will report to Matt Piercy, regional vicepresid­ent for the northern Europe, Middle East and Africa regions of the cloud software manufactur­er. Bhat will head the regional office in South Africa and manage the company’s expansion into West, East and Central Africa.

Before joining VMware, Bhat spent several years with IBM, most recently leading the IBM Software business in South Africa.
