A closet boxer from gangland

-

TSAMAYA know Morgan Gould grew up in the gangland of Noordgesig, where toddlers use Okapi knives for toothpicks. But we didn’t know the Kaizer Chiefs defender was a closet boxer. And so his coming out ceremony, when he floored Getaneh Kebede of Bidvest Wits, was a mismatch. Next time “Gouldiot” wants his itchy fist to make a joint venture with another player’s jaw we suggest he picks on someone his own size, say Collins Mbesuma. Better still, our boxing writer, Bongani “Buttbreaker” Magasela.

AFTER years in the wilderness, former Dynamos and Ria Stars winger Joel “Fire” Seroba has suddenly made a reappearance, like Moses from the desert, with an impassioned plea to Jomo Cosmos all-rounder Jomo Sono to be allowed to coach struggling Ezenkosi. Seroba believes he can guide Cosmos back from the First Division wilderness. Seroba has about as much chance as he would of parting the Red Sea because owner Sono is about as likely to fire his coach — also Sono.

BRINGING new meaning to the term “don't bet your house on it”, an Arsenal fan in Uganda actually did. Henry Dhabasani reportedly was so confident his beloved Gunners would beat Manchester United on Sunday, he put his two-roomed house on it in a bet with Rashid Yiga, who staked his new Toyota Premio and his wife. United won 1-0, Dhabasani fainted, and the next day Man United fans stormed his house and threw him and his family out. Now he's in the market for a new home, and probably, we wouldn't be surprised to hear, a new spouse. It could only have happened to a Gooner.

BOTSWANA’S football league surely can’t take itself too seriously if it’s considering postponing a league fixture so that Mochudi Centre Chiefs can play a friendly against their Kaizer namesakes. We know Chiefs are giants of southern Africa and have huge support in the country north of our borders, but after all it is just a friendly. No wonder Tso Vilakazi and Shakes Ngwenya have been looking for the ”get out of jail free” cards since being stranded at troubled Notwane FC.
