We have a better idea for Nkandla

-

TSAMAYA notes with excitement that the Economic Freedom Fighters say it will turn Nkandla’s compound into an FET College when they take over South Africa. We don’t know how long that’s going to take. But we reckon it would be more useful as a football academy. We, the taxpayers, have already paid for the artificial pitches at the compound, erm, homestead. And those players who don’t have much skill (called cows in football terms) can spend their time in the R1-million kraal.

ZLATAN Ibrahimovic reached unparalleled heights of narcissism after Sweden’s failure to qualify for the World Cup. The striker won’t be renewing his cable TV contract ahead of Brazil 2014, because he says it’s not worth watching. The reason: his favourite player won't be there — himself. “One thing is for sure, a World Cup without me is nothing to watch so it is not worthwhile to wait for the World Cup,” the gutted player said after his side’s defeat by Portugal. Of course, that win for the Iberians meant one small name will be going to Brazil at Ibracadabra’s expense — a certain Cristiano Ronaldo. We don’t see Fifa shedding too many tears over that result.

THERE was a superb Twitter exchange worth noting ahead of Bafana Bafana’s 1-0 victory over Spain at FNB Stadium this week. “Shabba: Hey @andresiniesta8, last time Spain was in the country, I opened the scoring for the world [Cup].” “Iniesta: @siphiweshabba Nice! Last time we were in South Africa, I scored the final goal for the world [Cup].” Needless to say, neither Siphiwe Tshabalala nor Andres Iniesta scored on Tuesday night.

A SAFA press release took propaganda to a new level as the body’s administrators unashamedly hijacked Bafana’s win over the world and European champions. The media statement claimed that the victory was a turning point for the new Safa leadership and even went as far as to say that “the new spirit at Safa definitely had an impact in the lead-up to the game”. And there we were thinking it was Gordon Igesund and his players who beat Spain.
