IVAN Moroke, CEO of TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris, has been elected chairman of the Brand Council of South Africa.
Moroke joined the council board as a coopted member in March 2013. He will hold the position of chairman for two years.
He has 20 years’ experience in marketing, client and agency advertising, marketing consulting, branding, and brand leadership. Moroke is also vice-chairman of the Association for Communication and Advertising and vicechairman of the Apex awards.
Dr Carla Enslin, academic head at the Independent Institute of Education’s Vega School of Brand Leadership and a teaching fellow at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business, was appointed deputy chairwoman of the council.
Moroke said that the role of the council was to place brands and the art and science of branding at the centre of all industry activities surrounding brands.
Said Enslin: “I am honoured to be a member of a council that upholds and promotes this goal and will support my council portfolio on education to create awareness and better recognition for all the educational players in the South African brand space.” LINDA de Beer has been appointed chairwoman of the financial reporting investigation panel, an advisory panel of accounting experts formed in 2002 by the JSE and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.
De Beer, who replaces Harvey Wainer, is an independent director, corporate governance adviser and a visiting professor in accounting and auditing at the University of the Witwatersrand. She has experience as a former senior executive of standards at the institute and as a member of the Financial Reporting Standards Council. BARCLAYS Africa Group has appointed Hasnen Varawalla head of corporate finance in the bank’s Africa investment banking division’s advisory team. He reports to Philip Lindop, head of Africa investment banking at Barclays Africa.
Varawalla has more than 18 years’ investment banking experience. He joins Barclays Africa from Renaissance Capital, where he was deputy head of investment banking and co-chairman of the Macquarie-Renaissance infrastructure fund. He has emergingmarkets experience, having led the African investment banking business at Renaissance Capital.
