Celebrities and beautiful people do good for orphans

JOHANNESBURG’S glitterati gathered at the Vilamoura restaurant in Sandton on Wednesday for the annual celebrity Cherubs charity gala dinner. Actress Carmel Fisher is the founder of the event, which is in its fourth year.

Handsome Top Billing presenter Jonathan Boynton-Lee was the host for the evening. He posed for a picture with Fisher, but they made it clear that they are not an “item” as gossip tabloids have claimed. “Carmel has a boyfriend and he’s not impressed with the rumours,” Boynton-Lee said.

The boyfriend, businessman Dino Gabrielides, was with Fisher, who looked divine in a stunning aqua mermaidstyle evening gown designed by Peta Eggierth-Symes.

Rugby player Francois Hougaard, a former boyfriend of the late model Reeva Steenkamp, arrived with businessman Justin Divaris, who was the first person murder accused Oscar Pistorius called after shooting Steenkamp. Both wore black suits and white shirts.

Mariechan Luiters of the pop group Jamali performed an excellent rendition of British singer Adele’s Someone Like You. She was followed by stand-up comedian Chris Forrest, who had the audience roaring with laughter. The food was fit for royalty — the restaurant served smoked salmon and avocado and a main course of queen prawns.

Fisher probably raised a pretty sum for the Princess Alice Adoption Home in Westcliff, which takes in abandoned babies from birth to two years.
