Censors miss the Jackpot

INDIA’S censorship board has banned the rap song Eggjactly from the Sunny Leone movie Jackpot .

However, the Indo-Canadian star of adult films says Jackpot is family entertainment and does not “require censorship”.

Leone, 32, who starred in the erotic thriller Jism 2 and the cop film

Shootout at Wadala, worked on some bold scenes for the movie, but says

Jackpot does not warrant an adultsonly certificate.

“I don’t think there is anything in the movie that requires censorship. It’s a very nice family movie that everyone can watch.”

She was speaking at last week’s launch of the music for the film.

Director Kaizad Gustad is upset by the ban on Eggjactly , which deals with corruption in India.

“It’s unnecessary,” Gustad said. “I don’t understand why the song has been banned. It’s funny and there is humour in it. It is not anything personal — it is about the whole country.”

The director said songwriter Javed Jaffrey “has not attacked any one person”.

“The censor board should have some sense of humour. [Jaffrey] has been very careful to avoid personal attacks.”

Actor-producer Sachiin Joshi said of the banning: “I seriously think it’s somebody’s ploy against me and I am being targeted.”

Jackpot was shot in Goa and also stars Naseeruddin Shah.

It opens in theatres on December 13. ACTRESS Kangana Ranaut makes many quirky fashion statements, and her style is sometimes also compared to that of US singer Lady Gaga.

But the Bollywood star and runway model disagrees.

“Comparisons keep happening. I don’t think I should be compared with Lady Gaga because I am an actress and she is a pop star,” the 26-year-old said during a fashion week recently.

“But every woman today is very powerful when it comes to fashion, be it Miley Cyrus or Lady Gaga — all of them are experimenting with their looks. I think in India we should also do a lot more of these looks and clothes and make women look very strong,” Ranaut added.

Her latest release, Rajjo, bombed at the box office. She is shooting Queen and Revolver Rani.

Gold, or garbage?

Selvaraagavan’s film Irandaam Ulagam has elicited a response that has now become typical of his recent movies.

Although a section of the audience has been raving about the novel concept and technical brilliance of this interplanetary romance, the story and concept seem to have gone above the heads of many.

Two well-known critics even admitted that they found the movie difficult to understand.

South Africans will get their chance to assess the film when it opens on the local circuit this week.

Director ‘reconciles’ couple

Everyone was surprised by director Pandiraj’s decision to cast Simbhu and Nayanthara in his latest — as yet untitled — film, because the actors were once romantically involved.

But, more to the point, because Simbhu and Nayanthara parted ways in less than amicable fashion. To their credit, both managed to put their differences aside and decided to work together. Simbhu is working on two films concurrently — for Pandiraj and Goutham Vasudev Menon.
