Are you good with money or irresponsible; a saver or a spender?

I can be a bit extravagant, but my life and design partner Gayle grounds me — she is always weighing up luxury and necessity and spending accordingly. What did your childhood experience teach you about money?

It taught me that if you work hard and work smart then reward should follow. What is your biggest extravagance?

My 1976 Jaguar XJ6. What is the one thing you wish you had never bought? And your best buy?

I bought one of my first sewing machines from a shady character. I paid him up front and he delivered it a month late. Plus, the machine never worked. It was a disaster. The best buy was a surf trip to Indonesia. Have you learnt any important lessons about money through making mistakes?

Do not spend what you do not have. What was the best money advice you were ever given?

“That’s great that you are so busy, but how much money do you have in the bank?” What kind of car do you drive, and do you rate cars in terms of practicalities, speed or looks?

I drive the XJ6 Jaguar. It is not entirely practical, but I am a bit sentimental. How do you invest (if you do) or save?

I put any extra money into my bond or property. Do you use credit? How did you deal with it and what’s your advice for using it?

I do not use credit, full stop. See my point above about not spending what you don’t have. I’ve already learnt that lesson. Do you carry cash around, or do you mostly use a card?

I use a cheque card so I can track my expenses, I am terrible with bits of paper. How do you tip? Are you an easy tipper?

I always tip, even if the service is bad. But I do speak up if I am unhappy with the standard of service. Do you manage your own financial affairs?

I do, but when it comes to the nitty gritty I consult an expert. What’s the worst thing you’ve done for money — “Never again”?

I sold lingerie in strip clubs. Most men would envy that, but for me it is definitely a “never again”.
