Young leaders graduate
CREATIVES put their money where their mouths are when they celebrated the graduation of nine young people at the Vega School of Brand Leadership on Thursday night.
Championed by youth activist and cancer survivor Karissa Samuel, the My Future First programme lauded nine students who have been equipped with leadership skills in preparation for their careers.
The initiative was driven by the Ntshulisa Foundation — headed by Samuel — and supported by the Vega School and Ogilvy and Mather.
About 50 guests attended the small ceremony in the school’s auditorium.
The nine excited students were Mamuaba Malahlela, Michael Mqolo, Katleho Sikosana, Tshiamo Pule, Busisiwe Lubisi, Precious Matsunyane, Lucky Montshiwa, Lebogang Hiine and Nompumelelo Galela.
The ceremony was brief, with welcome speeches by the cofounder of the school, Gordon Cook, followed by Ogilvy and Mather’s Abey Mokgwatsane, as well as Samuel.
Samuel said the programme strove to improve students’ essential skills, social competence and workplace readiness with a practical approach to sustaining their own careers.
The elated students beamed with pride as they were presented with certificates — one step closer to making their goals a reality.
Once the formalities were completed, the graduates mingled with guests over a few drinks and some prepared for the “real party” when they would paint the town red later that night.
