Gangster story entertains well

-

TIGMANSHU Dhulia has, over the years, achieved great success in the film industry.

His last two movies, Paan Singh Tomar— which won a National Film Award for best feature film last year — and Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns received glowing reviews.

The director now teams up with the versatile Saif Ali Khan, who was last seen in the crazy zombie flick Go Goa Gone, for a gangster flick titled Bullet Raja. It stars Ali Khan in the title role of a fiery gangster.

The movie opens when Raja (Ali Khan) gate-crashes a wedding and becomes friends with a daring and brave young man named Rudra (Jimmy Shergil).

Their friendship blossoms and they become inseparable and notorious gangsters, who work for a powerful minister.

Along the way Raja meets the beautiful Mitali (Sonakshi Sinha), but danger lurks around every corner when the friends clash with a devious industrialist.

Dhulia has directed a decently entertaining movie that occasionally wanders but still remains enjoyable. Everything unfolds at a brisk pace against a background of scheming politicians.

Ali Khan and Shergil have great initial footage that works well with the gangster mood of the movie.

Ali Khan’s characterisation is perfectly moulded and the actor brings out the true spirit and behaviour of the gangster.

Shergil is an underrated but talented actor and he delivers a confident performance. Sinha is required only to look alluring — and that she does naturally.

Despite a mediocre music score, this one works because of the tight performances of the lead stars.
