All the films on the boil or in planning
In good company for romance
THE new release of the week, Shaadi Ki Side
Effects , is one for all the married couples who are trying to rekindle their romance. The light-hearted story about the side effects of marriage has two of Indian cinema’s greatest talents coming together: Farhan Akthar and Vidya Balan.
Wanted: leading lady for Salman
There’s a lot of talk doing the rounds about Sooraj Bharjatya’s next project with Salman Khan. The two actresses whose names are being bandied about to play the leading lady are Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor. Incidentally, it seems that action star Vidyut Jamwal turned down a supporting role in the movie. Khan has worked with Bharjatya on blockbusters such as Maine Pyar Kiya and
Hum Aapke Hai Kaun.
A directing conundrum
There is still uncertainty about who will direct Rajinikanth’s next film. The grapevine has it that Shankar, who had planned a sequel to Endhiran, could not find a producer to finance the 2-billion rupees (about R346-million) he required. KV Anand ( Ko and Maatraan ), who was also in contention, is busy with Anegan, so it now seems likely that KS Ravikumar will be occupying the director’s chair.
Much music-making for Anirudh
Anirudh Ravichander is likely to score the music for the forthcoming Ajith-Goutham film — despite the earlier announcement that AR Rahman would be responsible. Ajithkumar will temporarily shed his saltand-pepper looks for a youthful avatar in the production. Anirudh is also composing the music for the forthcoming Vijay-Murugadhaas movie, which is still in production. And, this week, he will release the sound track album from the film Maan
Karate , which stars Sivakarthigeyan and Hansika. Anirudh has received Twitter praise from KV Anand for his previous album, Velai
Illaa Pattathaari, which was released last weekend and is bursting with a variety of creative styles.
Anticipation for real-life love
Kaaviya Thalaivan, based on the real-life love story of KB Sundarambal and Kittappa, has become one of the most eagerly awaited films of this season. Siddharth, Prithviraj, Vedhika and Naaser appear in the lead roles. AR Rahman will compose the music and the score will include the last lyrics written by Vaalee, who died in July last year.
Fearless filming resumes
The second round of filming for Anjaan, which stars Surya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, will begin in Mumbai on Wednesday. Two songs and some key scenes were completed during the first bout of filming.
Anjaan, a joint production by Thirupathy Brothers and Disney’s UTV Motion Pictures, is due to be released on August 15.
Reunion could sizzle
According to gossip, Simran will star opposite Kamalhassan in the upcoming remake of Drishyam. The pair acted in two films together — Panja Thanthiram and Pammal K Sambandham— more than 10 years ago, and it is common knowledge that some romantic feelings developed.
Much has happened since then, so it will be interesting to see what their screen reunion looks like. — Shalandra Bunseelal and Devan Nair
