Indian film awards event goes to US
It is awards season in Bollywood and, after prestigious ceremonies such as Filmfare and the Zee Awards, lovers of Indian cinema are gearing up for the International Indian Film Academy Awards.
They are to be held from April 23 to 26 in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, a movie inspired by the life of runner Milkha Singh, scooped nine awards — best cinematography (Binod Pradhan), best screenplay and best dialogue (Prasoon Joshi), best editing (PS Bharti), best sound design (Nakul Kamte ), best sound mixing (Pranav Shukla), best background score (Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy), best costume designing (Dolly Ahluwalia) and best makeup (Vikram Gaikwad). Hirthik Roshan’s superhero flick, Krrish 3, won awards for best action and special effects.
This year’s event, which is being held in the US for the first time, will be hosted by Saif Ali Khan.
It’s Crazy again The trailer of Kamalhassan’s film currently in production was released last week. It deals with the life of an ageing superstar and was written by top comedy writer Crazy Mohan, whose credits include Aboorva
Sagodharagall, Thenaali and Avvai Shanmugi. Kamalhassan’s guru, industry veteran K Balachander, will play an important role in the film.
Here at last After two false starts, Jayam Ravi’s Nimirndhu Nil was released worldwide this weekend. In South Africa, it is the second starring Jayam Ravi to be released on the big screen, the first being Dhaam Dhoom. Directed by Samudhrakani, Nimirndhu
Nil also stars Sarathkumar and Amala Paul. The film is being screened in Durban and Johannesburg.
Big day in Chennai The Tamil and Telugu audio CDs of Rajinikanth’s
Kochadaiyaan will be released at Sathyam Cinemas in Chennai today. Today will also mark the release of the trailers of the Tamil, Telugu and Hindi versions of the film. Director Soundarrya Rajinikanth is also expected to announce the release date. This follows her announcement last week that the media should not speculate on the release date of the film because it had not been finalised.
Simbhu, Hansika split In a move that has dismayed, angered and intrigued film fans, Simbhu has announced the break-up of his shortlived relationship with Hansika. Last year, some media houses had been speculating about a possible split — something that, at that time, was hotly denied by Simbhu. No reason has been given for the split.
Cast, crew reunite Great expectations have been created of the forthcoming film Daana, which reunites the cast and crew of the hit Edhir
Neechal. It will have Senthil Kumar directing Sivakarthigeyan and Shri Dhivya in a film with music by Anirudh Ravichander.
