Pather tickled pink by the looks he gets in his Golf

Show-stopper kitted out with all the trimmings

MEET Pinky and the brain behind her colour — Agashan Pather.

He bought the secondhand black 2007 Volkswagen Golf 1 in 2010 and resprayed it the shocking pink colour it is now.

“It was love at first sight,” said Pather, 27. “VW is the boss. I wanted a unique colour and I realised that you don’t see many VWs on the road that look like this. Pinky is a show-stopper.”

Pather has left the vehicle’s performance aspects untouched, instead choosing to make changes to its appearance.

The car’s engine has remained stock standard under the hood and the boot houses its customised sound setup — two 12-inch subs, with a Mono Block competition amplifier.

Pinky’s wheels are fitted with chrome rims and matched calipers.

The interior is panelled in vinyl, and cream leather seats edged in pink match Pinky’s rosy exterior.

Pather’s love for cars began in high school when he used to take the bus.

“I would sit there on the bus and look at all the cars going by and think about the type of car I wanted,” he said.

“I would watch others pimping their cars and I decided to start a project by building my own car.”

The cotton-candycoloured vehicle is the second one the Glenwood, Durban resident has owned.

His first car was a Fiat Uno, which he set aside when he clapped eyes on his Golf.

Everywhere I go, I get a thumbs up from other drivers who appreciate Pinky’s look

“I chose the VW because there are plenty of extras you can add on, and the car is aimed at a young generation.”

The trade has been kind to Pather — Pinky has landed him two trophies in the show-and-shine category at two separate car shows.

“Everywhere I go, I get a thumbs up from other drivers who appreciate Pinky’s look.”

Pather has plans to make only one more change before calling it quits on his work on Pinky.

“I just want a sunroof now and she’ll be done.

“That’s it.”
