Wenger gets the Blues on his special day

-

ARSENE Wenger described his 1 000th game in charge of Arsenal as one of the worst moments of his career after his side were humiliated 6-0 by Premier League title rivals Chelsea yesterday.

What was meant to be a day of celebration for Wenger turned into a nightmare as his side were dominated by a rampant Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

“Yes, of course it’s one of the worst days,” the 64-year-old told the BBC. “It’s over after 20 minutes and it’s a long game after that. You don’t prepare all week for that kind of experience.” Wenger failed to attend his post-match news conference, though he did defend his team.

“This defeat is my fault. I take full responsibility for it,” he said. “We got a good hiding.”

Arsenal now sit seven points behind Chelsea having played a game fewer and their title chase looks forlorn.

The match was also a nightmare for blundering referee Andre Marriner.

Goals from Samuel Eto’o, Andre Schurrle, Eden Hazard, Oscar (two) and Mohamed Salah coupled with Marriner’s decision to send off Kieran Gibbs for a handball by Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will ensure Wenger remembers the day for all the wrong reasons.

Luis Suarez scored a hattrick as Liverpool won 6-3 at Cardiff City to move to within four points of Chelsea. Manch- ester City are two points further back — but with three games in hand — after Yaya Toure also claimed a treble in a 5-0 win over Fulham.

Liverpool, who have a game in hand on Chelsea, twice came from behind to overwhelm second-bottom Cardiff in Wales.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side threatened to pull off an upset by going ahead through Jordon Mutch in the ninth minute and then retaking the lead through Fraizer Campbell after Suarez had equalised.

Centre-back Martin Skrtel equalised in the 41st minute, however, and Suarez’s two second-half strikes, allied to goals from Skrtel and Daniel Sturridge, secured a sixth successive victory for Liverpool, with Mutch replying for Cardiff.

For City, Toure’s first two goals came from the penalty spot and he completed his first hat-trick with an effortless 25m curler before Fernandinho and Martin Demichelis scored.

Sunderland remain in the bottom three after a Robert Snodgrass goal and an Alexander Tettey blockbuster saw them lose 2-0 at Norwich.

Norwich were the only team in the bottom seven not to lose, enabling them to climb seven points clear of the drop zone.

Papiss Cisse’s 94th-minute header saw fourth-bottom Crystal Palace lose 1-0 at Newcastle United, and West Bromwich Albion remain 16th after a 2-0 loss at Hull City.

Liam Rosenior put Hull ahead in the 31st minute, with former West Brom striker Shane Long adding a second goal seven minutes later.

Swansea City fell 3-2 at Everton, who moved above Tottenham Hotspur into fifth.

Leighton Baines, Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley found the net for Everton, with Wilfried Bony and Ashley Williams scoring for Swansea.

This defeat is my fault. I take full responsibility for it. We got a good hiding today
