TSAKANI Ratsela has been appointed deputy auditor-general. She is the first South African woman to be appointed to the position in the office’s 103-year history.
Ratsela takes over from Kimi Makwetu, who was appointed auditorgeneral in December.
She is a chartered accountant and national leader of audit services at the auditor-general of South Africa.
She studied at the University of Cape Town and has a BCom (accounting) and postgraduate diploma in accountancy. She completed articles with PwC. THE Medical Research Council has appointed Professor Glenda Gray to succeed Professor Abdool Karim as its president.
Gray, a paediatrician, is a worldrenowned scientist in the field of HIV prevention. She has published more than 200 scientific journal articles, is a National Research Foundation A-rated scientist and a member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and the national health research committee.
Professor Mike Sathekge, chairman of the council, said: “Professor Gray is an outstanding South African scientist who will be the first woman to lead the MRC.” THE University of Johannesburg has appointed Dr Mmakgomo Roseline Laka-Mathebula executive director of student affairs.
Laka-Mathebula is currently executive director in the office of the vicechancellor at the Mangosuthu University of Technology.
She holds a PhD in organisational behaviour from the University of Pretoria, a BSc from the University of the North, a master’s of science from the Royal Postgraduate Medical School of the University of London, a diploma in tertiary education from the University of South Africa and a higher education leadership certificate from the University of the Witwatersrand. KFC South Africa has appointed Pieter Horne field human resources director. He was previously franchise operations director.
He has been appointed to the position as part of a development assignment and will return to his operations position after a year.
Horne joined Yum! Restaurants International in 2005 as equipment manager in the supply chain team.
He has held roles in operations services, restaurant excellence and franchise operations. He was promoted to franchise operations director in October 2011.
