Pillow fight in court

Protection order after ’seduction’

- SANTHAM PILLAY

A MODEL boss has turned to the courts for protection from her “little playboy”, 20 years her junior.

In December last year, 38year-old Anamika MaharajEraman applied for a protection order for herself and her family against 18-yearold Kiran Gunpath.

In her application to the Stanger Magistrate’s Court, Maharaj-Eraman said Gunpath had become enamoured with her when he enrolled at her Tongaat modelling academy in 2011.

She said their friendly relationship quickly deteriorated when Gunpath began sexually harassing her.

A day after the peace order was served, Gunpath was arrested for intimidation after Maharaj-Eraman claimed he had harassed her telephonically. In her statement, Maharaj-Eraman said Gunpath would make sexually suggestive remarks about parts of her body and had tried to physically assault her.

“He spread rumours about me in school that I kissed him at age 16 and that he has a ‘thing’ with me and we are dating. He said his intention was to sleep with me by the end of 2013 [when he finished matric]”.

She said Gunpath had threatened to ruin her marriage and her reputation by claiming statutory rape. But in his replying affidavit, filed last month, Gunpath said he had been seduced into conducting a two-year affair with Maharaj-Eraman.

“She taught me a lot about adult life and activities, and we also had a number of sexual encounters conducted at several venues.”

He claimed Maharaj-Eraman would pick him up from school and take him to a number of hotels in Ballito, Durban and Margate.

Gunpath called MaharajEraman’s application for a protection order “unwarranted”. He said he had never had to force himself on her.

“I have always been her

little playboy and, to an extent, I enjoyed it.”

Gunpath attached explicit text messages which he allegedly had exchanged with the businesswoman.

In one of them she is alleged to have said: “I know I allowed it — but I was your creator sexually and in every other way . . .”

Gunpath denied threatening the businesswoman and her family. “I would never hurt the complainant or anyone for that matter. My mistake was allowing her to manipulate me and sexually abuse me.

“I did not think at that time that this is how things would turn out when I decided to breach [sic] away from her.”

In an additional affidavit filed earlier this month, Maharaj-Eraman said the threats had continued. She said a day after his arrest, Gunpath had contacted her and told her he did not care about the peace order and that she needed to “think again” if she thought she would get away with it.

The case will be heard in June.
