Former MF man calls for Raj probe

- SANTHAM PILLAY

WITH just more than a month to go before the national elections, the political mud-slinging has already begun.

The ANC’s Visvin Reddy used Facebook this week to ask that public protector Thuli Madonsela investigate the Minority Front’s founder, the late Amichand Rajbansi.

Reddy posted: “Could Thuli please investigate how all those garage sites in Phoenix and Chats landed in the hands of a poltician [sic]? And just how could a servant of the people end up with an estate worth over R60-million?”

Asked about the post, Reddy, a former MF member, said his comment was “tongue in cheek”. But he stood by his statement that Rajbansi ought be held accountable.

The MF’s Patrick Pillay labelled Reddy’s comments “early politicking” and described him as a “party hopper”.

“Reddy always makes nonsensical statements and shoots from his hip. He must go wherever he wants to go.

“The MF is unfazed by Reddy’s rhetoric, because his antics have always been a mockery and humorous to the electorate. The irony is that when Rajbansi was alive, he was a silent mouse.”

Reddy said that during his time in the party, he was approached by many individuals who made allegations against Rajbansi.

“When I raised these with him, he always dismissed them as nonsense and I trusted him. After his death and his estate became public, we realised that he manipulated us all.”

In another case, ANC councillor Brandon Pillay laid a complaint with the police in Chatsworth against the MF’s Ganas Govender. He alleged that Govender had made defamatory comments about him on Facebook.

Govender denied wrongdoing.
