THE corporate and investment banking division of Barclays Africa has appointed Phakamani Hadebe as chief executive of its South African operations.

He joins from the Land and Agricultur­al Bank of South Africa, where he was CEO. Hadebe will report to Stephen van Coller, chief executive of corporate and investment banking. Sappi has appointed Glen Pearce, chief financial officer of Sappi Europe South Africa, as chief financial officer. He will join the Sappi board as an executive director. Steve Binnie, the chief financial officer, will succeed Ralph Boëttger as CEO.

Pearce has been with Sappi for 18 years and has occupied various senior management positions in the Sappi group in South Africa and Europe. CHILDREN’S clothing brand Naartjie Kids has appointed Annemieke Doyle MD in South Africa. Doyle had a 27-year career in the clothing industry, most recently as the merchandis­e executive of Dermar Designs. She brings her expertise in the developmen­t of clothing collection­s — specialisi­ng in children’s wear — to Naartjie Kids, with an emphasis on the manufactur­ing processes. ONLINE classified advert sales site Gumtree South Africa has appointed Claire Cobbledick as its head of marketing.

Cobbledick has extensive marketing and advertisin­g experience.

She is the former managing director of The Jupiter Drawing Room in Cape Town, has been-marketing manager for Red Bull South Africa and has worked at various other advertisin­g agencies. Rian Breed has been appointed chief informatio­n officer at private education group Open Learning Holdings. Breed has amaster’s degree in electronic engineerin­g from the University of Pretoria and an MBA from the University of Stellenbos­ch. He won an award as the top MBA student of 2010. He was the innovation and technology manager at Internet Solutions Carrier Services.
