The Big B makes comeback as good ghost

-

BHOOTHNATH RETURNS (7/10)

AN Amitabh Bachchan project is one that always leads to much anticipation.

The legendary superstar returns with a comedy ghost flick, Bhoothnath Returns, the sequel to Bhoothnath, which was released in 2008.

Retaining his role as a friendly ghost, the movie opens with the Big B being ridiculed in Ghost Land for his inability to scare humans. Sent back to Earth to redeem himself, Bhoothnath befriends a fiery young kid named Akhrot (Parth Balero). They form a unique business partnership that leads to a clash with a notorious gangster turned politician, Bhau (Boman Irani).

Things take a strange turn when Bhoothnath decides to contest the local elections and tries to establish a movement for change.

It’s great to see Bachchan return with the same producers who delivered

Bhagbaan and Babul, because they work fantastically well in bringing out his best with a social message.

Although the movie is highly entertaining, especially in the first half, it sends out a carefully nuanced message about the power of the vote.

Bachchan is in top form yet again and delivers a loveable and light-hearted performance.

However, the real scenestealer is Balero, who is outstanding.

There are also a few surprise moments that add to the movie’s enjoyment.

Given that it’s election time in India and South Africa, Bhootnath Returns manages to evoke the right emotions that are important at such a time.

It’s a sincere movie with a charming outcome.
