Give Dewani equal treatment
THE editorial “Costly flight to arrive at truth” (April 13) needs a response. Our government is in the middle of the scandalous Nkandla debacle and, faced with daunting challenges that require the restoration of order and decorum, knowing very well that the national election is looming, we certainly cannot be saddled with another controversy that will spell disaster.
The government chartered a private aircraft at an exorbitant cost of R2.9million of taxpayers’ money to bring Shrien Dewani from the UK, thus according him a “celebrity status” that is unwarranted.
I cannot believe our government is giving such prominence to him when he should be treated in the same manner as all others charged with a heinous crime. Our judicial system appears to practise selective treatment for a few when there should be consistency in all cases. — Dhayalan Moodley, Mobeni Heights
