LAW firm Norton Rose Fulbright has appointed the chairman of Norton Rose Fulbright in South Africa, Sbu Gule, its global chairman.
Gule is an employment and labour partner and is based in Johannesburg.
He takes over from Adrian Ahern, whose term as global chairman expired by rotation in April.
Gule has advised on labour and employment law for more than 20 years and represents large corporate clients as well as governments and governmental organisations.
He is a graduate of the University of KwaZulu-Natal and has acted as a judge in the Labour Court and sat as an assessor in the high court. KEN McArthur has been appointed executive chairman at Ask Afrika.
He has experience in the market research industry and was the MD of Nielsen for 10 years. McArthur was senior vice-president for worldwide marketing for CIC Video International for four years. He held various positions in senior management and marketing both locally and in London.

RAMSAYMEDIA chief operating officer Werner Schmidt has been appointed to the board. He joins Terry Moolman, Tim Holden and Cornelios Vamdelis — the new board established after Caxton’s purchase of the family-owned media business late last year.
Schmidt joined RamsayMedia as an accountant in 1998. He was promoted to financial manager in 2006 and chief financial officer two years later. PROFESSOR Piet Naudé, an academic, public speaker, column writer and deputy vice-chancellor responsible for teaching and learning at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, has been appointed director at the University of Stellenbosch Business School.
Naudé received all his qualifications, including a doctorate in theology and a master’s in philosophy, from Stellenbosch.
He has more than 20 years’ management experience at a university. Naudé has been involved with the former University of Port Elizabeth since 1992 and was dean of the arts faculty. Between 2008 and 2011, he was the first full-time director of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Business School before he became vicerector and a member of the executive management.
