Hunt for bombers

-

KENYAN police hunted for suspects a day after twin explosions at an open-air market in the capital, Nairobi, left at least 10 people dead and 76 injured.

The bombings came as hundreds of British tourists were being evacuated from beach resorts near the port city of Mombasa after Britain’s Foreign Office and other nations issued new travel warnings.

The US embassy in Nairobi has limited travel for government employees to the capital’s neighbourhood of Eastleigh, as well as to Mombasa and Diani at the coast, five cities in the northeast and the coastal region on the border with Somalia, according to a statement on its website.

Convoys of tourist coaches were seen on Friday speeding through Mombasa’s city centre — which the Foreign Office now deems unsafe — towards the airport. Two specially chartered jets were sent from London to collect them. — Reuters
